DEPARTMENT OF DEFENCE IS HIRING FOOD SERVICE AID, The Department of Defence is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Food Service Aid II. This is a valuable role within the organization, responsible for supporting the efficient and effective operation of the military’s food service facilities.

SALARY: R131 265 per annum (Level 02)

WORK LOCATION: Training Command, Military Academy Saldanha

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
Applicants must possess a minimum educational qualification of Grade 2-9 or ABET Level 1-4/ Standard 2 – 7. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following specialized skills and knowledge:

  • Basic literacy and numerical skills to accurately handle and record food service operations
  • Knowledge of proper hygiene and sanitation practices in a food service environment
  • Ability to read and interpret recipes, and prepare food in the required quantities to meet meal demands
  • Proficiency in at least one of South Africa’s official languages, with the ability to read, speak and write effectively
  • Experience in operating heavy-duty cleaning equipment and handling large cooking appliances
  • Understanding of occupational health and safety principles and regulations

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful applicant will be expected to perform the following key duties:

  • Assist in the receiving and storage of all food provisions and stock within the food service unit
  • Prepare and produce a variety of normal and therapeutic meal options
  • Weigh, portion, and distribute prepared food to service members
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of all areas, utensils, and equipment in the Combined Club
  • Adhere to all relevant health, safety, and standard operating procedures

The role of Food Service Aid II may require working shifts, overtime, and being available on weekends and public holidays to ensure the continuous provision of meals to military personnel.
