Minimum Requirements for the General Assistant Position

To qualify for this General Assistant position, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Education Qualification:
    • A National Qualifications Framework (NQF) Level 4 qualification, such as a Grade 12 (Matric) Certificate or an ABET Level 4 Certificate, as recognized by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).
  • Experience:
    • While previous experience is not mandatory, one (1) to six (6) months of experience in Hospitality Management is advantageous. This could include experience in housekeeping, cleaning services, facility maintenance, or any other hospitality-related field.
  • Skills and Competencies Required:
    • Planning and Organizational Skills: Ability to prioritize tasks effectively and maintain a well-structured workflow.
    • Knowledge of Relevant Legislation: Familiarity with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other Public Service regulations.
    • Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Ability to interact with visitors and colleagues in a professional and courteous manner.
    • Time Management: Ensuring that assigned tasks are completed efficiently and within deadlines.
    • Teamwork and Group Dynamics: Working collaboratively with other team members to ensure smooth operations.
    • Professionalism and Independence: Being self-driven and capable of working with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities of a General Assistant

As a General Assistant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that the Nwanedi Nature Reserve remains a well-maintained and welcoming environment for visitors. Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Resort Facility and Equipment Maintenance:
    • Ensuring that all resort facilities are kept in excellent condition.
    • Performing basic maintenance tasks to prevent damage or deterioration of assets.
    • Assisting in the upkeep of camping facilities, lodges, and communal areas.
  2. Cleaning and Upkeep of Grounds and Surroundings:
    • Keeping the resort and camping site clean and free from litter.
    • Maintaining the appearance of outdoor areas, including gardens, walkways, and picnic spots.
    • Regularly sweeping, mopping, and dusting designated areas.
  3. Waste Management:
    • Handling waste disposal in accordance with environmental safety standards.
    • Ensuring that waste bins are regularly emptied and sanitized.
    • Recycling and following best practices for sustainable waste management.
  4. Swimming Pool Maintenance:
    • Cleaning and treating the swimming pool to maintain hygiene and safety standards.
    • Checking chemical levels and ensuring water clarity.
    • Removing debris and ensuring that poolside areas remain tidy and accessible.
